An unprovoked attack on a man enjoying a routine fishing trip has shocked the Portland community. According to KPTV, the victim, Xinmin Liang, was assaulted Tuesday morning on the Portland waterfront. Liang, who was there to check if the fish were active for the spring season, sustained serious injuries including a concussion, a swollen eye, and a broken arm.
His daughter, Jie Liang, recounted the harrowing event in a statement obtained by KTVZ, saying, "This white guy, about five-foot-seven, five-foot-eight with a blue beanie, just came up to him without saying a word. Picked up a thick, fat wood stick and started to brutally pound on him and punch him so hard." Jie Liang expressed her bewilderment over the attack, emphasizing that it seemed to occur "for no reason."
The Portland police are currently investigating the incident, seeking leads to determine the motive behind the attack and to find the perpetrator. The description of the attacker provided by Liang's daughter is one of the few details available at the moment. Xinmin Liang's family remains anxious for answers as they deal with the aftermath of this senseless act of violence.
According to the family, the emergency room doctor said that if Xinmin hadn’t managed to quickly protect his head, the outcome could have been much more tragic. Jie Liang told KPTV, "He used his arm to protect his head, but he still suffered massive blows to the face and walked away with both bones in his left arm broken." The community remains on edge as the search for the assailant continues.
