An early morning altercation on Juniper Street ended with gunfire and a wounded man, Atlanta police reported. The incident occurred around 12:20 a.m. on March 22, when a suspect allegedly attempting a car break-in was confronted by the vehicle's owner outside 888 Juniper St. The confrontation quickly escalated, and the suspect fled to a waiting white SUV. During their escape, a gunman inside the vehicle fired a shot at the vehicle owner, hitting him in the abdomen.
The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was transported to Grady Hospital and remained alert, conscious, and breathing following the incident. Police are actively investigating the matter, trying to piece together the sequence of events that led to the shooting. As the white SUV peeled out, police say one of the suspects from inside the vehicle is responsible for discharging the firearm.
According to the Atlanta Police Department's official statement, "The suspect fled and entered what appeared to be a white SUV. Upon fleeing, one of the suspects in the SUV discharged a firearm towards the victim, striking him in the abdomen." Law enforcement officials have not yet released descriptions of the involved suspects nor have they found the getaway vehicle.
No arrests have been made at this time, and detectives continue their search for leads. The Atlanta PD has called for any witnesses or individuals with knowledge of the crime to come forward. They are examining surveillance footage from the area where the shooting took place in the hopes of identifying the suspects. Desperate for assistance, the community has been asked by the police to help find the white SUV that appeared to be used in the crime.
