In a decisive strike against the dark trade of child exploitation, Maricopa County has dealt a heavy blow to one of its purveyors. Timothy Burton McGee, born January 1968, has been sentenced to 170 years following his convictions for the possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

The Maricopa County Attorney's Office, led by Rachel Mitchell, announced the sentencing on March 1st. McGee, who had been found to possess over 1,800 CSAM files, was convicted on January 11 of this year. In a case marked by painstaking detective work and unwavering prosecutorial resolve, McGee's punishment was handed down swiftly and with a clear message: such violators will meet the full severity of justice. "These crimes take place in the shadows, but it is up to us to shine a light and make sure these predators are held accountable," Mitchell stated in a release made public by the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.

Investigations into McGee's illicit activities kicked off when the Phoenix Police Department received multiple CyberTips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in 2019 and 2020. Subsequent investigations linked two Dropbox accounts filled with harrowing evidence of sexual abuse, to an IP address registered at McGee's residence. According to the official statement by the County Attorney's Office, these Dropbox accounts were accessed frequently from various locations associated with McGee, including his home, church, and place of work.

Detectives, while executing a search warrant on June 9, 2020, discovered even more CSAM files on McGee's laptop. Rachel Mitchell expressed satisfaction with the trial's outcome, emphasizing the significance of the punishment. "This sentence is appropriate given the defendant’s lack of remorse for his actions," she shared in the same statement from the County Attorney's Office, praising the work of law enforcement in neutralizing a threat to children and the community.

The Maricopa County Attorney's Office urges anyone with information on CSAM or child sexual exploitation to contact local law enforcement or to report via the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at CyberTipline.org. As McGee faces the consequences of his actions, officials hope his punishment will serve as a deterrent and a beacon of justice for the unseen victims of such heinous crimes.
