The MBTA has not released the identity of the bus operator nor the extent of their injuries. The operator was treated by medical personnel and is recovering. The attack has raised questions about the safety of transit workers who continue to operate in increasingly challenging conditions.
The Boston community and transit workers are calling for heightened security measures to prevent this type of incident from recurring. "Transit workers should not have to fear being violently attacked while simply doing their jobs," stated a local transit union representative. MBTA officials and local law enforcement are working to quickly respond to ensure the safety of all transit employees. The MBTA is urging anyone who might recognize the individual to call their Criminal Investigation Unit at 617-222-1050.
