The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) kicked off bridge replacements and roadwork, expected to snarl traffic along Telegraph Road for the foreseeable future. According to Click On Detroit, an investment of more than $18 million is directed towards rejuvenating four bridges and replacing two, which have been part of the landscape for decades—one for a full century and the other, half.

The project commenced this week, starting with the closure of the northbound US-24/I-75 connector after Monday's rush hour. This section is slated for closure until late fall, funneling drivers to an alternate path via northbound I-75, to northbound M-39, then to westbound I-94 before reaching back to northbound Telegraph Road, an intricate, albeit necessary detour detailed by MDOT.

Moreover, MDOT officials warned that starting in early April, part of northbound Telegraph Road, from Pennsylvania Road to north of Eureka Road, will shrink to one lane. Construction workers, determined to replace the bridge over the Frank and Poet Drain, are set to dominate the scene through late fall. As stated in a press release by the Michigan Department of Transportation, "There will not be a designated detour but drivers may want to avoid the area."

The following year promises a similar fate for southbound travelers. Roadwork will migrate to the other side, encompassing the southbound stretch of Telegraph Road near Eureka Road and the southbound I-75 connector, where, the state has admitted, bridges will undergo a serious phase of rebuilding and repair.
