A high school football coach's life was tragically cut short last month, and now, Memphis Police have apprehended a suspect linked to his death. Adrien Goodrich, 52, who doubled as a special education teacher and a football coach at Bluff City High School, was caught in the crossfire of a shootout and pronounced dead at the scene on February 22, according to Action News 5.
The suspect, identified as 55-year-old Harold E. Harris, has been arrested and charged with reckless homicide and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, rocking the Binghampton community where the incident took place. On the fateful evening, Harris was reportedly embroiled in a heated argument on Scott Street that escalated into an exchange of gunfire, and Goodrich, unfortunately, was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and Harris' arrest was made on Boston Street, as FOX13 Memphis reported.
The Mpemphis Police Department initially responded to the scene of the shooting at Scott Street and Yale Avenue at approximately 6:42 p.m.—during which Goodrich suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head, as indicated in the court documents linked to the case. Following a distinct chain of events, another participant in the shootout reportedly approached the police days later to recount how the violence unfolded, implicating Harris as the one who shot at him as he was getting out of his car, which led to Goodrich's unintended demise, as WREG News described.
Harris is now detained on a $100,000 bond as he faces serious legal charges, a reflection of a moment's chaos that had profound and permanent consequences, Goodrich—who dedicated years to mentoring youth through sports and education—leaves behind a legacy abruptly ended, whereas the accused, entangled in a dispute turned deadly, has sparked a wave of mourning and a search for justice within a community forced to reconcile with sudden violence that claimed a figure meant to embody leadership and care.
