Two teens are in custody following a dramatic shootout and standoff with Southaven Police that ensued after a car chase on Monday morning. The suspects, identified as 19-year-old Lamottis Simms and 18-year-old Franshawn Brown, both hailing from Memphis, Tennessee, allegedly fired at officers during the confrontation, as reported by Action News 5.
The chase began when Horn Lake Police were in pursuit of a Grey Nissan Altima with temporary Tennessee tags, believed to be connected to recent auto burglaries. The vehicle was stopped using spike strips deployed by the police. According to Local Memphis, after the car chase concluded on Horn Lake Road, the suspects barricaded themselves inside of a warehouse, leading to a standoff with law enforcement.
The ordeal ended when Simms and Brown were apprehended and charged with Conspiracy to Commit Murder on Law Enforcement and two counts of Receiving Stolen Property, as disclosed by FOX13 Memphis. The charges pertain not only to the shooting incident but also to their alleged possession of a stolen vehicle and a stolen gun.
In the aftermath of the arrest, the DeSoto County District Attorney released a statement regarding the charges against the perpetrators. "Both men were responsible for stealing a Nissan Altima and also had a stolen gun," the statement highlighted. The community of Southaven, recently rattled by the exchange of gunfire on its streets, awaits the justice process for the two young men whose actions led to a perilous morning for both the police force and the civilians caught in the midst.
