As March thaws out the winter chill, Mesa residents are receiving pointers on keeping their landscapes lush without drowning in high water bills. The city's March 2024 Watering Reminder has dished out guidelines for watering everything from Bermuda grass to vegetable gardens. The reminder notes, "March is a transitional month," with warmer days prompting growth and leaf renewal across a variety of vegetation.
Particular care schedule is recommended for established plants, suggesting that summer grass should be watered "once every 12-14 days" and desert-adapted trees "once every 30 days." To keep shrubs and cacti alive, the city advises a sprinkle "once every 19 to 25 days," respectively. Wildflowers, which gives the desert its splash of spring color, need a drink "once every 8-10 days if no rain," as picked up by the bulletin. However, these recommendations may vary depending on the individual conditions of each landscape.
Moreover, participants were offered cool deals on smart irrigation gadgets to make water use more efficient at the annual SRP Water Conservation Expo. Held on March 2 at the PERA Club, this family event made conservation not just a must, but a blast. The expo featured discounts "on smart irrigation controllers," with attendees snagging a Rachio 3 or Hunter Controller for $60 plus tax, whereas you would normally have to shell out $199 or $285.
Alongside bargains, the expo provided classes on water harvesting and a mini plant sale as if the attendees visiting were excited about all things green. Noelle Johnson, acknowledged as the AZ Plant Lady, was present to dispense wisdom on landscape and design. This popular blogger and book author commonly interacts with readers on her platform, also offering her latest, "Dry Climate Gardening." Fans even got the chance to win a free copy, certainly sweetening the deal.
