A 20-year-old man faces charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor, despite being banned from all Florida International University (FIU) campuses, police disclosed. Elijah Nathan Jean-Gilles was arrested in Miami on charges of lewd and lascivious molestation and battery, as Miami police held him at the Metro West Detention Center, according to the Miami Herald.
Recorded in a trespass warning by the FIU police in April 2023, Jean-Gilles was prohibited from university property, a prohibition updated on February 6, recently arrested after Miami-Dade correctional officers booked him early Saturday morning. A flyer circulated following the initial trespass warning included Jean-Gilles' photograph and urged anyone who spotted him on campus to immediately contact police, as reported by Local 10. The victim Jean-Gilles is accused of molesting is said to be between 12 to 16 years of age.
Jean-Gilles, who is set to turn 21 later this month, faces serious charges, with one count of lewd and lascivious molestation on a child 12 to 16 and two counts of battery. He is currently being held without bond pending a pre-trial diversion and is to appear in court this morning at a pre-trial detention hearing, stated in documents obtained by law enforcement.
