Miami police are on the hunt for a driver who allegedly sparked a fiery scene in Little Havana and then bolted Friday morning. According to reports, the chaos unfolded before 6 a.m. when a car slammed into an unoccupied, parked vehicle on Southwest 10th Street, triggering a blaze that swallowed both cars whole.
As reported by WSVN, witnesses described seeing a woman hastily make to flee the aftermath on foot. "I heard a very loud boom," recounted Anne Jackaway in an interview with NBC6. "I only heard one loud boom so it didn't slam on its brakes, it just hit the car directly, probably full speed."
The collision, occurring at 17th Avenue's intersection, turned the two vehicles - a BMW SUV and what seemed to be a blue Chevy sedan - into an inferno that was later doused by responding firefighters. Cesar Rodriguez, who had rented the BMW, was away at the time, completely unaware of the calamity that had struck his temporary possession. "The flames immediately were firing up onto the sky," Jackaway added, describing the intensity of the fire.
No injuries have been reported, as both cars were unoccupied, but authorities are still piecing together clues to track down the car's owner responsible for the hit-and-run. With investigation actively ongoing, Miami police earnestly seek to apprehend the woman seen rushing from the crash site. More updates are to be expected as the authorities continue to sift through the smoky residues of a morning marred by sudden violence on a calm city street.
