Minneapolis is in for a roller coaster of weather this week, with everything from scattered flurries to sunny skies and the potential for snow accumulation later on. Today, Minneapolis residents can expect scattered flurries before 11 am, but these will give way to partly sunny conditions and a high near 32 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. However, it won't be a mild day with breezy conditions, as a north-northwest wind is expected to blow at 15 to 20 mph, with gusts ramping up to as much as 30 mph.
The chill doesn't let up tonight, as the skies turn partly cloudy and temperatures dip to around 19. The North northwest wind will continue to gust up, this time reaching as high as 25 mph. Looking ahead to Monday, a mostly sunny day is on tap with a high creeping up to nearly 38 degrees, and the wind shifting west in the afternoon. Tuesday will bring another windy but warmer day, with mostly sunny skies and a breeze that could see gusts up to 35 mph, according to the forecast from the National Weather Service.
While the early part of the week may offer a respite from winter's bite, the National Weather Service warns in their Hazardous Weather Outlook that elevated fire weather conditions are expected today due to the breezy northwest winds and low relative humidity. These conditions may present themselves again on Tuesday.
But winter isn't over yet, as Thursday threatens to bring snow into the equation. Snow is likely, mainly after 1 pm, with east winds around 10 mph ushering in a 60 percent chance of precipitation. This could mean accumulations and potential travel impacts, though the "exact location and amount of snow is still uncertain." As we move into the weekend, the snow chance lingers on and off, though temperatures hovering around the mid-30s suggest it might not be around for long. Meanwhile, the National Weather Service indicates no need for SKYWARN spotter activation at this time.
