As winter grips the city once again, Minneapolis officials are working to arm residents with knowledge of the environmental impact of road salt and how to use it more effectively. Through the launch of a new salt mini-course, the city aims to enlighten the community about the potential harm excessive salt can cause to local waterways.
The course, which was unveiled as snow loomed in the weather predictions, is designed to encourage mindful application of salt to ensure public safety while also protecting the environment. According to the City of Minneapolis Government , "Explore our salt mini-course to learn about the impacts of salt on our waters and how to use salt more safely and effectively." This initiative aims to tackle the urgent need to maintain safety while not forgetting to protect one of the city's most valued assets—its water.
