Minnesota's Aging and Adult Services Division (AASD) and Disability Services Division (DSD) are doubling down on their commitment to safety and inclusivity with recently announced, upcoming events designed to equip professionals with the necessary tools to handle the intersectionality of disability and aging.
In a bulletin released by the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS), they reminded 245D-licensed providers, tribal nations, lead agencies, and other stakeholders of the importance of their upcoming "Culture of Safety" training. Scheduled for March 18 and 20, 2024, this two-day hybrid event will delve into using safety science principles to not only respond to critical incidents but also to encourage employee involvement in safety and improvement efforts, and to better understand the systemic factors behind unintended outcomes.
Adding to their educational endeavors, the first session of the 2024 Odyssey webinar series is now open for registration. Anne Phibbs, PhD, of Strategic Diversity Initiatives will helm the webinar titled "From Either/Or to Both/And: When Disability and Aging Intersect," with the aim to provide insights for lead agencies, providers, and parties interested in the nuanced needs arising at the crossroads of disability and aging. The online event is slated for April 4, 2024, and it promises to offer fresh perspectives for professionals navigating these complex intersections in their work.
The efforts by AASD and DSD are part of a larger push to ensure that Minnesota's aging and disabled populations receive competent and considerate care. Professionals and interested parties can sign up for the upcoming events through the DHS website.
