A tragic end has come to the search for a young man from Massachusetts who vanished in Pennsylvania following a car crash. Timothy Kravchenko, a 19-year-old from Chicopee, has been found dead in the area where he was last seen after a vehicle mishap late last month.
It was in Girard Township, a small town just shy of the Lake Erie border, where Kravchenko's body was discovered on Sunday, according to Clearfield County Coroner Kim Shaffer Snyder’s statement obtained by Boston.com. Arriving in Pennsylvania from Chicopee on Feb. 24, he got into what was described as a "minor" car crash the very next day. Kravchenko subsequently left the scene before police could arrive and hadn't been in touch with anyone since that day.
An autopsy has been conducted, but official cause of Kravchenko's death could take six to eight weeks to determine, reported Snyder. The Clearfield County local officials were joined by Pennsylvania State Police and Chicopee police in a collaborative effort to track down the missing teen.
With no phone to contact anyone, and unfamiliarity with the area being against him, police initially believed Kravchenko may have still been in Lecontes Mills area, an unincorporated community in Clearfield County following his disappearance, as MassLive reported. Standing at 5'10" and weighing 185 pounds, the young man with blue eyes and curly brown hair was described by police in the hopes that someone might have information leading to his whereabouts.
The news of Kravchenko’s demise has provided a sorrowful close to what his family and authorities hoped would be a safe return. As they await further details from the ongoing investigation into his death, the community mourns a young life cut short by unforeseen tragedy.
