A brazen motorcyclist's high-speed gambit to evade the law ended with a soggy arrest in Lake Lanier, law enforcement officials said.
According to the Hall County Sheriff's Office, the episode unfolded on March 20 when Georgia State Patrol troopers attempted to pull over a helmetless motorcyclist at about 4:10 p.m. The chase intensified as the rider, later identified as Clint Nalley, 38, pushed his throttle to escape capture, but fate had other plans. Nalley's bid for freedom took a wrong turn onto a dead-end road where he crashed, prompting him to ditch his bike and leap into the lake in a desperate attempt to swim away from authorities, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
However, the water offered no refuge for Nalley. Troopers, with the help of a Hall County sheriff’s deputy, commandeered a civilian's bass boat to pursue. The officers eventually pulled Nalley from the lake and into custody. The motorcycle crash site later revealed a "trafficking amount" of methamphetamine and cocaine, authorities said.
Nalley, now facing drug trafficking and evasion charges, was taken to a hospital for a check-up before being released back into police custody. His run from the law has led to added chase-related charges from the Georgia State Patrol, according to an investigation that ensued by WSB-TV.
The Hall County Sheriff's Office has yet to disclose further details about the incident or Nalley's legal representation. More information is expected to emerge as the case proceeds through the legal system.
