Get ready for a traffic headache, Nashville. Commuters will face a series of closures on a key downtown bridge over the next few weekends as the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) embarks on a major repair project that’ll shut down the I-40 West span at the busy I-40 and I-24/I-65 interchange—yeah, that’s the nerve center where thousands of vehicles hustle through the Music City every day.

Starting March 22nd and stretching into mid-April, Bell & Associates Construction is taking it to the streets—quite literally—swapping out the old bridge railing for sturdier steel, laying down fresh concrete, doing all kinds of deck repairs, sealing that up good, and basically making sure the bridge doesn't fall out from under us, but in order to do that, they’re gonna need to close the bridge entirely for the weekends of March 22-25, April 5-8, and April 12-15, as they confirmed in their announcement.

If you're cruising on I-65 South, you’re in luck; you won’t even notice a thing, and you can hop onto I-40 West like there’s nothing going on. But for those unlucky souls coming from I-65 North / I-40 West on the loop's southern edge, you’ll need to reroute via I-24 W or I-440 W to avoid the construction zone—and maybe avoid blowing a gasket with the extra detour time tacked onto your drive. All this, of course, is hinging on whether the weather decides to play nice or not.

And in case you need reminding, speeding through a work zone is a no-go in Tennessee, since the Move Over Law they rolled out back in 2006 says if you don’t ease off the gas or make room for those working on our roads, you could be staring down a 500-dollar fine or, even worse, up to 30 days behind bars; so, let’s keep it friendly out there and give the folks in the orange vests a break, they're just trying to make sure you don’t end up driving over a future pothole the size of a guitar case.
