A snowmobile outing turned tragic for a 64-year-old New Hampshire man who died after his vehicle tipped over during a ride with coworkers near Diamond Ridge in Pittsburg, N.H. The group rented snowmobiles for an afternoon adventure on Friday when the man, whose name has not been released, encountered trouble navigating a turn at a slow speed, causing him to tip onto his side, as The Boston Globe reported.
Quick action was taken by his colleagues who found him unresponsive they immediately began performing CPR, and they sent out a distress text message to 911 and activated a personal locator beacon to confirm their location, this according to a statement from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department. Rescue personnel from the Pittsburg Fire Department, 45th Parallel EMS, and Fish and Game Conservation officers arrived on the scene on snowmobiles, only to join the coworkers and Good Samaritans already trying to resuscitate the man, as detailed by Boston 25 News.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene before 3 p.m., after more than an hour of failed life-saving efforts. Investigators are looking into the possibility of a medical emergency at the time of the incident, working closely with the Medical Examiner’s Office.
His death is among several snowmobiling fatalities in New Hampshire this winter, recently three Massachusetts women also died in separate snowmobile accidents, highlighting an ongoing string of tragedies hitting the snowmobiling community this season, including fatalities of Krista Bebezas, 48, of Westford who died after hitting trees on February 24 and Shawnee Hollis, 39, of North Brookfield who died after crashing into a tree on February 17, Stacey McGarry, 56, of Littleton passed away after a crash back in January, these figures provided by The Boston Globe.
