Brief showers and cooler temperatures are on the horizon for the North Bay area today, with lighter rainfall expected to continue into the early part of next week, the National Weather Service San Francisco CA reports. Rainfall totals are anticipated to remain modest with coastal ranges in Sonoma potentially receiving up to 0.25 inches through tonight.
The relative calm of today's weather is projected to give way to a more dynamic pattern starting Sunday, substantial winds and widespread rain are expected to spread as far south as the Central Coast, the Agency said in a statement; projected rainfall amounts will range from up to 1 inch in the North Bay to around 0.1 to 0.5 inches across the Bay Area, and a tenth of an inch or so along the Central Coast. By mid-week, forecasters anticipate a significant shift leading to drier and warmer weather conditions, culminating in high temperatures potentially reaching into the mid-70s inland and near 80 degrees in some locales by the following Saturday.
Today's atmospheric changes may not bode much precipitation for regions south of the North Bay, as confirmed by a tweet from the NWS Bay Area, which stated, "Rain today? If you're near the North Bay, maybe. Elsewhere, probably not." The weak frontal system will contribute only trace amounts of rainfall to northern areas, underscoring the uneven distribution of this weather phase across the region.
As part of the evolving conditions, small craft advisories have been issued for select coastal waters beginning Sunday into Monday, due to an incoming moderate to large northwest swell that might provoke hazardous conditions at sea with wave heights anticipated between 11 to 15 feet the NWS explains on the forecast discussion. This sentiment of change was amplified by the NWS Bay Area via Twitter, reflecting on the beautiful March day and alluding to the unsettled, windy, and wet weather slated to return over the weekend and early next week, with a transition to dry weather expected mid to late next week.
