San José Police Department (SJPD) has apprehended a man linked to a duo of armed robberies that terrorized local businesses last December. Jeffery Turner, 37, an Oakland resident, became the prime suspect following investigations led by SJPD Robbery Unit Detectives into the crimes that plunged the 3100 block of Monterey Road and the 2900 block of S Bascom Avenue into fear. Dressed in black with masks concealing their identities, the robbers, armed and dangerous, swept through the establishments with a chilling demand for cash, escaping with money, scratch-off lottery tickets, and an assortment of items.
While Turner is now in custody, the search continues for his accomplice, who has eluded capture. This unidentified suspect, defined by a thin build and the use of his left hand, remains at large. Turner's arrest came on March 7, in a collaborative strike by the SJPD Covert Response Unit and the Oakland Housing Authority, detailing how the suspect was taken into custody at an Oakland address hiding in plain sight.
A subsequent search at Turner's residence turned up a firearm, ammunition, cash, and a stolen vehicle, linking him further to the crimes. Following the search warrant's execution, these findings enabled police to solidify the charges against him. The police are extending a call to anyone with knowledge regarding these or similar offenses to come forward. Detective Mendoza (#4395) of the SJPD Robbery Unit is spearheading the inquiries, encouraging potential informants to reach out via email or phone. Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers is adding incentive, offering a cash reward for tips that lead to an arrest, as detailed in their recent report.
Authorities urge the community to aid by submitting tips through various anonymous channels, including the P3TIPS mobile app, the tip line, or the Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers website. This collective effort seeks to close the net around the second suspect, ensuring that both individuals responsible for the December robberies face the full weight of justice. As the case unfolds, updates are anticipated to be released by the San José Police Department.
