Oakland's finest pulled a cache of 16 firearms and a stash of ammo off the streets after a heated argument escalated into a gun-pointing incident, the Oakland Police Department (OPD) said.
According to a report by the Oakland Police Department, cops descended on the 3800 block of 39th Avenue on March 4, responding to a call about a verbal dispute gone dangerously wrong. An individual had reportedly brandished a firearm at another, prompting the investigation, which unearthed legally registered and stolen guns.
"On March 4, 2024, Officers responded to a report of a verbal dispute, which escalated to an individual pointing a firearm at a victim," the statement on Nixle detailed. "Based on their preliminary investigation, officers determined there was a significant threat to the safety of the victim and community."
A search warrant led police to the individual’s home, where the armaments were found. The OPD statement heralds this seizure as a "testament to the commitment, and diligence of OPD in combating gun violence." The department reiterated its pledge to maintain public safety and combat community threats.
Law enforcement's efforts have once again underscored the ongoing battle against gun violence plaguing the streets, with OPD further cementing its stance, "OPD remains dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community members," as per the Nixle announcement. The identity of the individual involved in the initial dispute and any charges filed in the incident have not been disclosed.
