
The Oregon Department of Administrative Services (DAS) is poised for a makeover in workforce management practices following a revealing audit, Secretary of State LaVonne Griffin-Valade blew the whistle on February 29. The conducted audit by the Oregon Audits Division underscores a pressing need for the state to sharpen its workforce planning and employment practices.
Griffin-Valade was unambiguous about the objectives, "Oregon should model best practices in workforce management because, that will improve our public services." According to the State of Oregon, the audit's insights are not just for the DAS to muse over, but a blueprint applicable across the state's government spectrum. The Secretary of State's office signaled an anticipation for other elected officials and agency leaders to delve into the findings – given their wide applicability.
The cooperation of the DAS with the audit team provided a comprehensive understanding of the current practices and how they might be ameliorated. DAS leadership and staff earned Griffin-Valade's gratitude for agreeing to undertake all of the suggested rectifications outlined in the audit report.
