Major utility work by PECO Energy is set to clog up streets across the Philadelphia region starting next week, PennDOT has announced. Commuters should brace for a series of lane closures in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties, which are guaranteed to test the patience of many a motorist trying to navigate the disruption.

Court Street in Doylestown Borough is about to become a no-go zone from Monday, April 8, through Friday, May 31, between the peak hours of 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. The weekday closure between Main Street and Clinton Street will redirect folks along a detour using Main Street, Business U.S. 202 (Oakland Avenue), and Business U.S. 202 (Clinton Street), according to PennDOT.

Phoenixville Borough isn't being spared either, with Route 113 (Bridge Street) between Hall Street and Taylor Alley facing a weekday lane closure from Monday, April 1, through Friday, May 3, from the same 9-to-3 time slot. East Coventry Township will witness similar restrictions on Sanatoga Road at the intersection with Old Schuylkill Road till the end of May. And for those in Middletown Township, expect a squeeze on Dutton Mill Road at Old Middletown Road all through April.

Montgomery County drivers, take note: Route 463 (Forty Foot Road) is getting the lane closure treatment as well between Koffel Road and Towamencin Avenue in Hatfield and Towamencin townships starting April 3. And if you're cruising through Norristown Borough, better plan for a slowdown on U.S. 202 (Markley Street) from Brown Street to Roberts Street through the end of next month.

PECO's doing all this under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit, so the inconvenience is legit, albeit a tough pill to swallow for those of us just trying to get from A to B. But hey, these upgrades promise a more reliable juice supply for our homes and businesses down the road.
