Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Big Rig on PCH in Malibu, Causes Major Traffic DisruptionSource: Google Street View

Tragedy struck early Friday morning on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu as a big rig truck fatally hit a pedestrian. The accident, which occurred near the intersection with Cross Creek Road at approximately 6:30 a.m., has resulted in a complete shutdown of the highway. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, and the closure is expected to disrupt traffic for an unknown duration, according to KABC.

As per the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department motorists are advised to find alternate routes, as investigators work to piece together the events leading to the fatality. AIR7 HD footage showed significant damage to the truck's front passenger-side bumper. Authorities have yet to release an estimated time to fully re-open the highway.

In response to the ongoing safety concerns on PCH, the City of Malibu recently escalated enforcement efforts by contracting the California Highway Patrol. As part of their diligent enforcement, the CHP's Malibu Task Force has been rigorously citing traffic violators. From March 18 through 24 alone, officers handed out 109 citations, predominantly for speeding, and even nabbed a DUI offender in their clampdown, as noted by CBS Los Angeles.
