The City of Brotherly Love is set to experience a classic springtime seesaw of weather this week. After a crisp morning with temperatures floating around the mid-30s and wind chill making it feel like a nippy 28 degrees, Philadelphians can expect increasing clouds today and a moderate high floating near 48 degrees. The west wind will keep things interesting, gusting up to 25 mph, according to the National Weather Service in Philadelphia.
Tonight, while clouds initially look to dominate the sky, they'll be giving way to partial clears, dropping temperatures to a more comfortable low of around 39 degrees. The southwest wind, blowing more gently at 5 to 10 mph, may be welcoming to those journeying through the night.
The NWS Philadelphia outlook then suggests that Wednesday will begin mostly sunny with a high climbing to 55 degrees, before slipping in a slight chance of showers post-3pm, holding at a mere 20% possibility. "Mostly sunny, with a high near 55. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph," predicts the NWS detailed forecast for the midweek day. A similar slight chance of precipitation continues into Wednesday night before 9pm, with the temperatures taking a dip to the lower 30s.
The rest of the week, as laid out by the NWS, patrons can anticipate predominantly sunny days with highs leaning into the mid to upper 40s, while the nights bring a mostly clear sky that will let the mercury fall to just shy of freezing. However, the peace is forecasted to be interrupted Friday night, as rain is "likely, mainly after 3am" with NWS predicting a healthy 70% chance of precipitation, ushering in a grey Saturday with rain likely before noon.
The coming Sunday and Monday resume the stretch of sun, with daytime highs returning to the mid to upper 40s and nighttime lows around the freezing mark. Philadelphians, pack your umbrellas for the weekend but enjoy the sunny breaks that the week ahead promises.
