A Philadelphia street has been struck by a series of tow truck heists, with one man, Lamarr Miller, 44, at the center of the crime wave. Police have linked Miller to the theft of at least seven cars throughout the city, utilizing a tow truck to stealthily haul vehicles away, as FOX 29 reported. After surrendering to authorities, Miller faces charges that include auto theft and receiving stolen property.

In what appears to be a twist of fate the same truck that was returned to Miller after a previous theft in Chester City in January 2022, was the vehicle he used to commit the latest round of crimes, Captain Jason Smith revealed in a statement obtained by 6abc. After posting bail on the recent theft charges, Miller's tow truck, this time, has been impounded by authorities as they maintain a vigilant stance against the ongoing problem of vehicle theft.

The truck, which could easily be mistaken for an ordinary Chevy Silverado, concealed a towing apparatus that extended out from the rear, making it a less conspicuous tool for crime. According to a PhillyVoice report, following his arrest, Miller was released from custody after posting a substantial $105,000 bail.

Efforts to curve the city's vehicular theft rates are seemingly bearing fruit, with a reported 40% decrease in stolen vehicles compared to the same time last year, the statistics from Philadelphia Police revealed. This progress aligns with Mayor Cherelle Parker's ambitious "clean and green" initiative aimed to promote a tidier cityscape, and as PhillyVoice covered, nearly 40,000 complaints of abandoned vehicles were lodged last year alone.
