According to a release from the Phoenix Street Transportation Department, this expansion will to surely test the waters, monitoring how 24/7 access impacts the bustling downtown area and its adjacent neighborhoods. Since launching for the long haul in January last year after a prolonged testing phase, the initiative has rolled out Lime and Spin as the go-to vendors for zipping through Phoenix's streets.
The existing service area includes downtown Phoenix and the regions south, west, and east of the city center. A city boundary map marking the program's reach is readily accessible for those looking to plan their late-night or early-morning journeys across these urban plains.
If you're looking to grab a scooter between night hours and dawn, you'll have to pass a rider reaction test via the vendor apps. This move is built to ensure that safety doesn't take a back seat as the program boldly ventures into the untapped potential of nocturnal journeys.
E-scooters began carving their path through downtown Phoenix's thoroughfares as early as September 2019.
