In a statement obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix, the Scottsdale Police Chief described the suspect initiating gunfire at two officers, who were forced to respond with lethal force. The officers, one experienced and the other less so, were reportedly unharmed during the exchange.

Simultaneously, the Scottsdale Police Department announced on X that the intersection where the incident took place would be closed until further notice, causing a significant disruption to local traffic into the next morning. The statement concluded with the same incident being the valley's second officer-involved shooting to result in a fatality that day, as Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies had earlier shot and killed an armed man in Mesa.
