As the Big Apple battens down the hatches for another week of chilly temps, the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is gearing up to thaw out the frost with a series of free events for the community. With daylight savings right around the corner, PBOT's Safe Routes to School program is ready to help Portlanders shake off the winter blues and get them, quite literally, back on their bikes.

It's time to pencil in some key dates.  There's a "SE Basic Bike Maintenance Workshop" slated for March 19 where attendees can get their bikes tuned up for free. For the folks looking to kick their spring into gear, the "Spring Awakening Ride" on March 21 is a promising pit stop. And for those who miss out this month, April also offers an "East Portland Basic Bike Maintenance Workshop," according to Portland.gov.

But that's not all. PBOT is making it easy to embrace environmentally-friendly transit this Earth Month with a slew of bicycle-centric celebrations. Whether it's tuning up at the workshops or pedaling through St. Johns during the group ride, Portlanders have a chance to get their wheels in motion before the summer sun takes the stage full-time.

For those who can't make it to the events, PBOT's outreach extends its hands through the digital sphere. The Safe Routes to School team encourages the community to keep in touch via social media. "And remember to follow us on Facebook and Instagram, and tag us in your posts and stories so we can easily re-share them," the team expressed with gratitude. With experts like Brittany, Dana, and Josh, among others, eager to share their knowledge, it's safe to say that Portland's path to a bike-friendly spring is well underway, as per Portland.gov.
