The Portland Community College (PCC) is opening its doors wide to every graduating senior from Beaverton High School and its Early College High School, starting with the 2024-25 class. These students will now enjoy a straight shot to college enrollment in fall 2025 without the red tape of the standard application process, as reported by PCC.

The initiative, a concrete push towards educational equity, targets especially those students who stand at the margins, including low-income individuals, first-generation college aspirants, foster youth, and minority groups it's designed to fortify the stepping stones for those for whom higher education often seams akin to a castle floating in the sky, unreachable. "The move is a significant step toward creating equality of opportunity for students in underserved communities," Vicky López Sánchez, PCC's Executive Dean for K12 and Community Partnerships, detailed in a statement obtained by PCC News.

PCC aims to reassure students with the safety net of guaranteed admission, López Sánchez added. Bridget Jones, PCC’s Director of Admissions & Recruitment, echoed the sentiment, spelling out that the bond with the Beaverton School District naturally aligns with the college’s mission of accessible education.

As KOIN reports, the pilot program will, following a trial year, look to cast a wider net to encompass all Beaverton schools and subsequently other districts that fall within PCC's reach—its blueprint, a template that could reshape access to higher learning across the board. The college believes the program not only dismantles time barriers during the admissions phase but also chops down the stress associated with navigating the collegiate onboarding process.
