Portland residents should brace for a chilly and wet start to March with forecasts predicting a mix of rain and snow showers throughout the week. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Portland Oregon, the city will see minimal snow accumulation but consistent precipitation and breezy conditions.
With the snow level starting at a mere 500 feet early today and rising to 1400 feet by afternoon, Portlanders can expect the rain, possibly mixed with snow showers, to transition to all rain after noon. Winds from the south at 10 to 15 mph, with gusts hitting as high as 23 mph, might give an added bite to the 45-degree high expected for the day. Tonight, rain showers are likely before turning to snow showers late, with, a snow level at 800 feet and a low temperature hovering around 35 degrees.
The weather pattern continues into the weekend with Saturday sharing a similar forecast to today—rain and potential snow showers transitioning to all rain after 1 pm and a snow level that once again ascends to 1000 feet in the afternoon. The high for the day will be near 45 degrees, maintaining the consistent but dreary tone of the weather.
Sunday provides little relief with likely rain and snow showers before 10 am, then shifting to all rain showers as the snow level climbs from 300 to 1300 feet by the afternoon. While the temperature should peak around 44 degrees, gusty south-southwest winds at around 11 mph will continue to sweep through the streets of Portland.
As the new week rolls in, the same mixture of cool temperatures and mixed precipitation is expected to persist. Monday's weather closely mirrors that of the weekend, with rain possibly mixed with snow showers turning to all rain after 10 am. The temperature is projected to achieve a high near 45 degrees as the snow level lifts to 1700 feet later in the day.
The unsettled weather pattern is set to continue through midweek, with forecasts calling for more showers and fluctuating snow levels. Portlanders should prepare for predominantly cloudy skies with highs inching toward the mid-40s and intermittent periods of precipitation, ranging from rain to snow showers, especially during the night when temps drop to around 35 degrees.
