Portland International Airport is gearing up for a bustling Spring Break season, with an expected surge in travelers passing through its gates. According to KATU, approximately 800,000 people are anticipated to travel through the airport, marking a 7% increase from last year's figures. Students in Oregon are less than two weeks away from their Spring Break, setting the stage for a hectic period at the airport. Officials are prepping for the heaviest traffic on Thursday and Friday, March 28 and 29.

The influx of travelers doesn't stop with Oregon's academia, as Washington students are slated to have their respite the following week, leading to another round of crowded concourses and check-in lines. KPIC echoed these projections, with officials pointing to Thursday and Friday of that week as potential hotspots for high travel volume, in what is an annual exodus from the confines of classrooms to the bliss, or chaos, of vacation destinations.

Recognizing the increased demand, Portland International Airport is advising travelers to arrive at the airport around two hours early to ensure a smooth transit through security and a punctual arrival at their gates. As families, and students alike ready themselves for a much-needed break, the airport's preparations seem to be a reflection of an anticipated Spring Break that reaches beyond the norm of the past year's turnout.

While the expected travel uptick is substantial, the airport appears confident in its ability to handle the seasonal spike. Reporting from NBC16 notes that, the airport is no stranger to large-scale holiday travel and has measures in place to accommodate the additional passengers.
