A 24-year-old Portland man has landed in hot water with federal authorities for allegedly peddling drugs to kids via the secure messaging app Telegram. Rocky Allan Rainwater is slapped with charges for distributing and possessing intent to distribute cocaine and wielding a firearm during a drug trafficking stint, according to a statement obtained by the Department of Justice.
Officials say Rainwater, who operated under the name "smokeyinpdx," hawked a veritable drugstore's worth of illegal substances including cocaine, magic mushrooms, MDMA, ketamine, LSD, Xanax, Adderall, and pot not only to local clients but also boldly advertised his drug-shipping biz for customers beyond the Oregon border, Rainwater didn't just push his poison to willing adults; he's accused of targeting minors in his drug-dealing enterprise. In a sting operation on March 22, the feds nabbed Rainwater mid-cocaine transaction.
During a swoop of his vehicle, agents found a loaded .22 caliber pistol, a stash of cocaine weighing 73 grams, 465 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, bits of LSD, and dextroamphetamine among other illicit items; a later rummage through Rainwater's abode turned up more narcotics, a digital scale, ammunition, and a pile of cash totaling $1,490, as detailed in court documents.
Post-arrest, Rainwater was hauled into federal court where he appeared before a U.S. Magistrate Judge and now remains in custody pending further legal proceedings, the law enforcement's dragnet that ensnared Rainwater was courtesy of the Clackamas County Interagency Task Force (CCITF), a multi-agency cohort that keeps a stern eye out for drug trafficking in Clackamas County area, the task force which brings together the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Canby Police Department, Oregon State Police, the FBI, and Homeland Security Investigations draws support from the Oregon-Idaho High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program.
It's important to underscore that the allegations against Rainwater remain in the realm of accusations until the gavel falls with a legal determination of guilt. According to the DOJ, "A criminal complaint is only an accusation of a crime, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty."
