Portland residents should brace themselves for a string of wet days as the National Weather Service in Portland predicts a steady barrage of showers and rain starting tonight and persisting well into next week. With the sky overcast and temperatures hovering in the upper forties, the city is about to get even gloomier. The latest weather data, which included descriptors like "mostly cloudy" and predicted temperatures inching towards 57 degrees, suggests that today might offer some respite before the deluge.
Tonight, the likelihood of rain jumps to 70 percent, bringing showers mainly between 11 pm and 2 am. But don't let that fool you; while rainfall is expected to be less than a tenth of an inch, warning that this is just the beginning, according to the National Weather Service. Tomorrow's outlook isn't any brighter — showers are again likely with a similar chance of precipitation.
The small reprieve comes Thursday night when there's a mere 40 percent chance of showers before midnight, followed by a chance of rain after that. The National Weather Service has not let up the gloomy forecast, predicting another round of rain on Friday with a 90 percent chance of precipitation and new amounts ranging between a tenth and a quarter of an inch.
Come Friday night, and continuing into the weekend, Portlanders are in for more wet weather. Showers are on deck with an 80% chance of materializing and don't plan on packing away the umbrella anytime soon. The forecast into next week remains consistently soggy, with high chances of showers during the day and rain likely at night. With the ground already saturated and the air heavy with the chill of the Pacific Northwest, the city must gear up for what seems like an inevitable stretch of rainy spring days.
