Almost four years following a deadly drive-by shooting that claimed the lives of a young couple and their unborn child in San Antonio, authorities are increasing efforts to track down the culprits, offering a reward for vital information. 17-year-old Xavier Esquivel and 19-year-old Vianeth Ramos were fatally shot on the night of August 19, 2020, per FOX San Antonio. The pair expected their first child together.
A grey SUV, reportedly engaged in hot pursuit, cornered the couple's vehicle at the junction of South Olive Street and Aransas Avenue. Riding with two others, Ramos and Esquivel suffered multiple gunshot wounds when the SUV's occupants opened fire. According to KSAT, at least 20 rounds pierced the night – rounds that marked the end for Ramos, four months pregnant, and Esquivel.
The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) along with Crime Stoppers has renewed its call for public assistance, emphasizing the gravity of a case gone cold but not forgotten. Amid reflecting on the harrowing incident, Chief William McManus deemed the shooting a "targeted incident." All occupants within the ill-fated vehicle sustained injuries, but it was Ramos and Esquivel who succumbed to theirs.
