Rep. Sara Jacobs has scored a cool $13.5 million for San Diego, funding 15 community projects in her district, the legislator's office reported. The House approved the appropriations package, setting the stage for the Senate's anticipated green light before landing President Biden’s John Hancock. "I’m incredibly proud that I secured $13.5 million for local projects across California’s 51st district – especially during such a politically fraught time in Congress," Jacobs said in a statement released by her office.
The cash injection will spread across diverse projects: a center for military and veteran reintegration, a safe parking spot for the homeless living in vehicles, and upgrades to education facilities, among others. Funds for enhancing community safety, beautifying spaces, and bolstering the local business environment indicate a comprehensive financial push to rejuvenate the region's infrastructure and social services. The spotlight shone on an innovative teaching kitchen planned for the University of San Diego to battle chronic diseases like diabetes and obesity.
Jacobs' efforts ensured that popular projects, which include a $1 million center for military veterans and a $850,000 safe parking construction for San Diego's vehicle-dwelling homeless, didn't fall through the cracks. Additional funds are to bolster the educational sector: $658,000 heads to Lemon Grove to increase school bus service. At the same time, $1.4 million goes to designing an early childhood education center with the future in mind, wielding facilities tailored for young learners.
San Diego State University will receive a nearly $1 million TEM microscope, sharpening researchers' eyes to the atomic level. Meanwhile, the fight against California's wildfire threat gets a $1.9 million boost to develop cutting-edge fire models using data and AI.
