For the second time in four months, a Lakeview restaurant has been hit by thieves, sending the owners of 2d Restaurant on a familiar and disheartening cleanup. Early Monday, burglars shattered a glass patio door at 2d Restaurant on North Halsted Street, minutes before staff arrived, snagging roughly $700, along with store tablets and some merchandise.

This burglary echoed a November incident, as captured by the restaurant's surveillance, and leaving business owner Kevin Yu to face the aftershock of such violation again. "It was definitely a very setback moment when we saw the broken glass," according to a WGN-TV interview. The restaurant which had 86 diners scheduled for service that day, had to turn them away due to the damage and loss.

The culprit's brazen act was detailed in a CBS Chicago report, which included images of an empty cash register and a person seen in the surveillance footage inside the restaurant. Describing the emotional toll, the owners expressed feeling devastated and defeated following the repeated crime.

Despite the setback and financial hit, Yu exhibits resilience and compassion, "I know life is not easy especially, it got so cold in Chicago this morning and we know people have a need," he told WGN-TV. Yu optimistically looks forward to reopening and continuing the mission of his restaurant – to bring joy to Chicago. "The most important thing is we will come back stronger than ever, and hopefully we can keep supporting our mission which is to bring joy to Chicago," he added.

Local customers eager to indulge in 2d Restaurants have to wait a little longer as repairs and restorations are underway. According to Yu's plans, the restaurant aims to welcome diners back by Thursday, turning the page on this unfortunate chapter.
