Early Monday morning, a River North intersection turned into a crash site, leaving one injured and prompting road closures. The incident involved a collision between a Chevy SUV and a Mazda sedan around 3:39 a.m. in the 600 block of North LaSalle Street, as per NBC Chicago. The 25-year-old male driver of the Chevy was taken to a hospital in stable condition, while the Mazda driver fled the scene, added the Chicago Police Department.

According to authorities, the Chevy was heading northbound when it struck the Mazda which was traveling eastbound, and the collision left debris scattered across the road, with images from the scene displaying the SUV heavily damaged crashed into a barrier wall facing east, NBC Chicago captured. Yellow police tape could be seen cordoning off the area until roughly 7:00 a.m., affecting commuters in the vicinity of the intersection near the former Rock & Roll McDonald's located at 600 N. Clark Street.

As reported by ABC7 Chicago, the crash prompted the LaSalle Drive closure between Ohio and Ontario streets while police conducted their investigations, which led to citations that are currently pending, the scene was then cleared and roads were reopened shortly before 7:30 a.m., allowing traffic to resume its usual flow.

There was some initial confusion regarding injuries as the Chicago Fire Department earlier reported two people had been hurt, however, Chicago police later clarified that only the driver of the Chevy was injured and transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in stable condition, per ABC7 Chicago
