A high-speed car chase followed by allegations of domestic assault has landed a Roseville man behind bars facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges. Gary Young, 36, was arraigned in the 41-A District Court on Wednesday for an incident that occurred last Sunday involving his girlfriend and her teenage daughter in Sterling Heights, Hoodline reports.
According to the Sterling Heights Police Chief Dale Dwojakowski, officers were dispatched to a domestic violence report which evolved into a pursuit and resulted in Young being charged with five felony counts including assault with a dangerous weapon and three misdemeanors including two counts of domestic violence after a dramatic chase through several cities, almost hitting a pedestrian and swerving into oncoming traffic, as detailed by CBS Detroit; meanwhile, Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido told Hoodline that the safety and well-being of the community are of utmost concern.
The Sterling Heights Police Department released dashcam and bodycam footage of the chain of events, which show Young being apprehended with the deployment of a K-9 and the use of a taser gun after a tire-deflating "stop stick" failed to stop his vehicle, this information was confirmed by Chief Dwojakowski in a statement to Macomb Daily. The Macomb County Sheriff's Department is currently reviewing the arrest to determine the legality of the force used, with two Sterling Heights officers put on administrative leave during the investigation.
Young's flight from the scene of a domestic dispute kicked off the dangerous chase, which culminated in his SUV's tires blowing out near I-94 and 12 Mile Road after he drove over a curb, reports CBS Detroit.
Post-incident, Young faced a judge in court with a $15,000 bond set, the Macomb County Prosecutor stressing the gravity of Young's alleged crimes and their impact on the community, as per Hoodline.
