The men and women in blue traded in their handcuffs for hardcovers during a heartwarming visit to a local elementary school. Officers spent time Wednesday morning with the eager students of Bruce Vento Elementary, engaging in discussions, showcasing police vehicles, and participating in Saint Paul Police Departmentstorytime that was anything but routine, as reported by the Saint Paul Police Department.
Highlighting the importance of fostering positive relationships with the youth, the department acknowledged the initiative's goal was twofold—to educate and build trust. Reading to the kids, officers took a break from patrolling the streets to engage the city's youngest citizens, as per the Saint Paul Police Department, "Some of the most important connections we can make are with our youngest community members." The department wants kids to feel at ease reaching out to law enforcement if necessary.
The Saint Paul Police Department confirmed the success of the event by expressing gratitude to Bruce Vento Elementary for the warm reception, "Thank you for letting us stop by!"
