A local man is behind bars after a tip-off led to the horrifying discovery of more than 1,000 child pornography images on his phone, authorities say. Thomas Salinas Chapa has been slapped with felony charges for possession of child pornography following a detailed investigation spurred by tech giant Microsoft.
The case began to unfold when Microsoft flagged an uploaded image for its lewd content, prompting a warning to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, as FOX San Antonio reported. The flag raised a red alert, which in turn, led to a deeper probe revealing Chapa's association with the illicit photograph.
An arrest warrant was executed. When authorities combed through Chapa's phone, they unearthed a staggeringly large collection of similar explicit material involving minors.
Details of the arrest warrant suggest that several hundred images found on Chapa's device were of sexual acts involving children.
