A San Antonio community is grappling with shock and sorrow after a 17-year-old girl's body was discovered in a ditch earlier today. Police are now treating the case as a homicide and are urgently seeking a "person of interest."
According to KENS 5, the teen was found near the 7600 block of Dell Oak Drive, which lies perilously close to Krueger Middle School and not far from her northeast-side home at around 12:30 a.m. Investigators are piecing together her final moments after she, reportedly went missing just before 11:30 p.m. last night. The girl's phone was discovered discarded in a nearby ditch, and her body was eventually located unclothed under a bridge.
San Antonio Police Department, which has detained the man last seen with the teen, has not disclosed the nature of the trauma found on the victim. "Police say she was naked, and initially there were no obvious signs of trauma to her body. They later said the signs of trauma were there," as stated by KENS 5. He is believed to be a neighbor who accompanied the teen on a walk the evening she vanished.
The authorities have released an image of a "person of interest" on the SAPD Facebook page, soliciting the public's help. Any individual with information relevant to the investigation is encouraged to contact the SAPD Homicide unit at 210-207-7635. "Early Wednesday morning SAPD released an image of ‘a person of interest’ on their Facebook page. They are now asking anyone with information leading to the identity of the person to contact the SAPD Homicide unit," as detailed by KSAT 12.
