A dispute between neighbors in San Antonio erupted into violence Saturday night, resulting in a man barricading himself inside his apartment after brandishing a gun at those involved. At approximately 9 p.m., police were called to the Connally Apartments on the 5300 block of NW Loop 410 at Rolling Dale Drive following reports of a disturbance, according to KENS 5.
The incident began as a verbal altercation between residents and quickly escalated to become physical. In an attempt to defuse the situation, two residents intervened. The situation took a dangerous turn when one of the men involved pulled a gun and aimed it at the peacemakers, causing them to retreat. The armed man then proceeded to fire several shots into the air before fleeing back to his own apartment, reported FOX San Antonio.
San Antonio Police swiftly responded to the scene but were met with resistance from the armed suspect, who refused to exit his apartment. A standoff ensued, with officers unsuccessfully trying to persuade the man to surrender. The standoff lasted several hours, during which nearby residents were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
Eventually, communication was established with a woman inside the suspect's apartment after two hours, as per the officials involved. This dialogue resulted in both the woman and the suspect to emergd from the apartment without further conflict. The male suspect, identified as a man in his 30s, was taken into custody and faces multiple charges, KENS 5 noted.
EMS provided medical treatment to the two residents injured while attempting to break up the initial fight. No other injuries have been reported. With the investigation still underway, police have not yet determined what initially sparked the altercation, as noted by both KENS 5 and FOX San Antonio.
