In a grisly reminder of the violence that can erupt over monetary disputes, San Antonio police have nabbed the second suspect in connection with a shooting that left one man seriously injured. The alleged shooter, 20-year-old Jose Martinez Sambrano III, faces a slew of charges after being accused of involvement in the November 27, 2022, incident which took place in front of the victim's family, according to a report by KSAT.
Police detail that Sambrano, along with another man named Theodore Sanchez, 31, engaged in a confrontation with the victim over a financial issue. It escalated when Sanchez reportedly opened fire with an AR-style weapon, hitting the man in the face, stomach, chest, and left arm. Despite a desperate plea from a woman at the scene, asserting that her young son was inside the vehicle, Sanchez allegedly continued shooting, striking the car multiple times, as KSAT reported. Though the vehicle was riddled with bullets, fortunately, no one inside was harmed.
Sambrano, who police say was a friend of the victim's family, and Sanchez, described as an acquaintance, became the target of arrest warrants following the shooting. While Sanchez was apprehended late last year, Sambrano's arrest didn't occur until this past Monday. Both men are now facing four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon each, making the community question the value of life when weighed against financial disagreements.
The victim, reportedly conversing with relatives from outside their vehicle when the attack unfolded, has not been identified. The aftermath of the shooting, which took place on Hicks Avenue, underscores the all-too-common narrative of personal connections decaying into violence. Neither Sambrano nor Sanchez has publicly commented on their arrests or the accusations against them.
