A recent wave of car burglaries in San Antonio came to a violent end when a 19-year-old man, John Salinas, was arrested after a confrontation that involved gunfire. According to Fox San Antonio, Salinas has been slapped with charges of Aggravated Robbery and two counts of Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle.
On the day of the incident, a resident confronted a masked suspect rummaging through his mother's vehicle, after hearing disturbances outside of his house. During this encounter, shots were fired at him by one of the perpetrators, though it was unconfirmed whether Salinas was the shooter. As reported by KSAT, he stated that he saw three men dressed in hoodies and masks but did not witness who shot at him. Then driving a stolen Kia, one of the unknown suspects nabbed a Hyundai from a neighbor, while Salinas made off with an Audi.
Video evidence from the area rolled back the curtain on the crime spree, showcasing Salinas and two unknown suspects driving the stolen vehicles through the neighborhood. Salinas ended with six shots fired, leaving bullet marks on the victim's garage and car, without injuries being reported. He was taken into custody last Wednesday.
Detectives were able to put the pieces together after obtaining surveillance footage showing Salinas parking the stolen Audi near his residence. Investigators said they have video evidence that showed Salinas conspiring with two other people to steal and burglarize vehicles, as intimated by reports. Salinas is now in custody.
