A Schaumburg man has been slapped with felony human smuggling charges after a high-octane Border Patrol chase ended with the discovery of two undocumented immigrants in a stolen car he was driving near the Arizona border, authorities said.
The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Graesen A. Jackson, led police on a wild chase that kicked off near Bisbee, Arizona, on Tuesday afternoon when he reportedly blew past Border Patrol agents – his driving so erratic, it caught the attention of several law enforcement agencies, which became involved in the pursuit and it included officers from the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Border Patrol agents, and Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers, complemented by air support and Bureau of Land Management officers, KGUN reported.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the pursuit was abruptly ended after deputies laid spike strips across the road, deflating the tires of the 2019 Mazda hatchback Jackson was driving, which had been reported stolen earlier that day from a Bisbee Burger King. With the vehicle incapacitated, Jackson and his passengers attempted to flee on foot, but were swiftly apprehended by the authorities.
After the chase, which snaked into opposing lanes of traffic posing a hazard for countless motorists, the two men traveling with Jackson were turned over to the Border Patrol for processing; their involvement with the Schaumburg man has yet to be expounded upon. Jackson now faces serious charges for his alleged role in what appears to be a botched human smuggling operation, and as for now, the investigation is still ongoing, authorities have emphasized.
