An associate principal at Hoover High School in San Diego has been nabbed by cops on serious child porn raps. The San Diego Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force busted Charles Thomas Boyd De Freitas, 41, amid chilling allegations of distributing smut to a minor and hoarding child pornography. The longtime employee of the San Diego Unified School District was collared on March 20 and is currently cooling his heels in the Central Detention Facility.
Acting on a tip from a young whistle-blower, the investigators pounced, revealing that the accused allegedly used a social media app to peddle and solicit illegal images from a minor. De Freitas, who had a stretch as a teacher at the San Diego School for Creative and Performing Arts before stepping into his role at Hoover High, might have flown under the radar if not for the gutsy kid who spoke out.
With the suspicion that other kids could have been prey to De Freitas' repugnant activities, detectives are casting a wide net for additional victims. They've gone high-tech in their probe, seizing a bunch of electronic devices from De Freitas' property, which they're now picking apart for more evidence of these depraved acts with the kind of precision a surgeon would envy.
Justice is looming for De Freitas, with his day in court penciled in for Friday, March 28, at 1:30 p.m. in the San Diego Superior Court downtown. In a beseech to the public posted on the city's official website, officials are urging anyone with even an inkling that De Freitas could have crossed the line with other kids to get in touch with SDICAC Investigator Laura Hurtado at [email protected].
