Chaos on the tracks as a pepper spray attack leaves commuters stinging in Cambridge. MBTA Transit Police are on an active manhunt for an individual who unleashed a stream of pepper spray on unsuspecting riders in a Green Line trolley, authorities said. The assault, which happened at approximately 2:25 p.m. on March 9 at the Lechmere station, sent waves of panic among the passengers, who scrambled to escape the sudden onslaught.
The culprit, though still at large, was captured by surveillance cameras, the images of which have been released to the public in hopes that someone might recognize the suspect and come forward with information. The MBTA has not disclosed the number of individuals affected by the attack nor the severity of their injuries following the pepper spray incident. Emergency services were dispatched to the Lechmere station in the aftermath of the attack to treat those affected.
