Seattle residents are in for a week of soggy shoes and drenched umbrellas. According to the National Weather Service, a wave of rain is expected to hit the city starting today and persisting well into the next week. The forecasts predict a near-constant downpour, with an 80-100% chance of precipitation in the coming days, which will likely lead to consistent rain gear usage and cautious commutes.
As of early this morning, the National Weather Service reported partly cloudy conditions, with a humidity of 75% and a wind chill at a brisk 41°F. The mercury is set to rise to a high near 51°F today, accompanied by breezy conditions, as winds shift to south southwest at an increasing pace. Gusts could reach up to 30 mph, giving an extra punch to an already damp day. The chance of rain remains high at 90%, with new precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
Tonight, Seattleites will need to hold onto their hats and raincoats as the rain continues unabated. The forecast expects temperatures to dip to a low around 42°F with south southeast winds maintaining a steady 16 to 18 mph. These gusty conditions will likely cause minor annoyances for outdoor diners and those strolling the city's streets.
The pattern of rainfall is set to continue through the weekend with no reprieve in sight. Sunday's outlook shows similar conditions with a high near 49°F and a south wind around 14 mph. Looking into the early part of the week, Monday's weather won't stray far from the established norm. Showers are likely before 10am, then transforming into steady rain with south winds continuing at 11 to 14 mph. Each day threatens to add between a tenth and quarter of an inch of new rain, dampening spirits as well as the ground.
The deluge is expected to carry on through Tuesday as well, with rain forecasted before 10am, then followed by showers for the rest of the day. Temperatures are expected to hover around 50°F but the consistent rainfall does little to improve outdoor conditions. While the latter part of the week suggests a potential easing, with Wednesday showing a mere chance of showers, Seattle's weather narrative remains largely written in shades of gray and wet for the foreseeable future.
