A brazen early morning burglary in West Seattle ended with a frying pan-wielding homeowner and a helpful neighbor subduing a suspect until police could take him into custody. According to the Seattle Police Department blotter, officers arrested a 29-year-old man suspected of breaking and entering a residence on the 3600 block of 48th Avenue Southwest, heard around the neighborhood at approximately 6:48 a.m. on March 10.
Responding to the chaotic scene, Seattle police discovered a badly shattered large window and a suspect, pinned down by an irate homeowner with backup from a neighbor. The homeowner, who had been startled awake by the sound of glass breaking, found the unexpected visitor inside and during the altercation, was forced to fight off the intruder, as reported by the SPD blotter.
The suspect, undeterred by the initial confrontation, ventured back into the home only to meet the homeowner's spouse. Armed with a frying pan and sheer will, the spouse battled the intruder, managing to drive him out temporarily. Yet, displaying a stubborn resolve to not be deterred, the suspect brazenly re-entered the house a third time.
Ascending to the second floor, the unwanted guest continued his trespass until he met his match - the combined force of the determined homeowner and an ally in the form of the neighbor. Together, they restrained the suspect, making successful what can only be described as a makeshift yet effectual arrest until the Seattle police came to relieve them, taking the suspect into their custody, as stated in the SPD blotter.
Subsequent to his apprehension, the suspect received a medical evaluation at Harborview Medical Center. Ensuring he would face the consequences of his alleged actions, authorities booked him into the King County Jail on charges of burglary. The audacious defense of one's home with the most mundane of kitchen utensils marks a notable, if unconventional, victory over criminal intent in this West Seattle community.
