The Seahawks spun the turnstile of signings Monday, announcing Anchrum as their latest addition, a move likely meant to shore up an interior offensive line experiencing some significant shake-up.
The 25-year-old Anchrum, whose professional journey was detailed by Seahawks.com, has spent the last four seasons wearing horns but will now suit up to safeguard the Seahawks' quarterback in the upcoming season. Despite being predominantly a backup during his time with the Rams, Anchrum now looks set to fiercely compete for a starting spot, especially in light of last year's left guard Damien Lewis and right guard Phil Haynes' departure into free agency.
Anchrum, a former All-ACC tackle at Clemson and part of a national championship-winning team was initially selected in the seventh round of the 2020 draft by the Rams. His career there was marked by limited game starts owing to injuries and strong depth within the Rams' offensive line squad, but his versatility remains a highlighted attribute even as he transitions to the Seahawks. His previous team saw him as a quality depth piece and he made a single career start, which was cut short due to a season-ending injury early in that game, as Field Gulls reported. The terms of his new contract with the Seahawks have yet to be released.
Seattle's offensive line has seen a significant refresh this free agency period. In addition to Anchrum, the Seahawks have landed center Nick Harris and tackle George Fant, building a front eager to optimally protect their playmakers.
